Two new pedestrian bridges were designed in conjunction with the Dobyns-Bennett High School science and technology addition.
Exposed structural steel HSS framing supports composite floor slabs. A sunshade facade blends seamlessly with the structural steel posts to add drama while protecting students from the sun.
At each bridge, the main supports are V-shaped columns located at the third point along the bridges’ length. Rather than connecting the new bridge directly to the existing building’s structural framing, the HSS girders cantilever 12 feet beyond the final support of the V-shaped column.
