Structural Features

  • This renovation project updated the outdoor plaza located between the two Atlantic Yards towers and over the existing cast-in-place parking deck podium.
  • The updated plaza includes a new lawn area, freestanding canopies, covered walkway, and sculpture artwork.
  • The existing podium’s concrete slab and beam system was analyzed for increased loads required at the new assembly areas.
  • The new canopies were designed using steel wide flange framing with roof deck.  The canopy base plates connect directly to the existing podium slab which was reinforced below the plaza using additional post-installed steel beams.
