Structural Features

  • The curved shape of the office building required careful coordination with concrete formwork, as well as detailing and placement of the reinforcing steel, particularly for the perimeter concrete beams.
  • In addition to the normal design criteria of an office building, the project is designed to mitigate damage from a potential blast threat and also to prevent progressive collapse of the structure in the event of a loss of any column.
  • The confined construction site also created numerous challenges for the design-build team.  Careful phasing, staging and logistics were needed to minimize disruption to the ongoing operations at the CDC Roybal campus.
