Structural Features

  • The 128-feet-long Barrell roof trusses provide a column free space for the pool and grandstands. To provide the most economical design, the trusses were spaced 20 feet apart, and deep steel roof deck was chosen to span between them. Fewer pieces not only meant faster erection, but also fewer pieces to repaint and maintain in the long-term.
  • The complex connection geometry between the curvilinear steel roof trusses and vertical concrete supports required careful detailing. At each connection, buildability and construction tolerances were carefully considered in addition to the structural load path.
  • Structural steel, cast-in-place concrete and masonry designs were all utilized on this site to meet various design challenges and keep project in budget.
