Structural Features

  • This renovation project restored the concrete structure’s original aesthetics after 100 years of use and renovations, including its tulip columns and colonnade.
  • The existing concrete structure had been damaged in the previous renovation when the building was converted into a library.  Uzun + Case was challenged to restore and repair existing concrete beams and their reinforcing that had been chipped and cored, portions of major building columns that had been removed from lower stories, and major bearing walls that had been demolished without repair.
  • The existing steel mezzanines were removed from every room.
