Structural Features

  • The concrete structure was designed to meet the strict vibration requirements of the laboratories throughout the building.
  • The project had a fast schedule, with the first structural package almost 4 months before the 100% package, and the full structural package released over a month before other disciplines.
  • A cantilevered transfer girder supporting columns above was designed to be only 36 inches deep to accommodate a large opening needed for the loading dock entrance within the building footprint.
  • A portion of the basement supports at least 16 feet of soil, with trees and a stream running through the landscaping.
