Structural Features

  • This award-winning project renovated the existing student center and integrated a new structure to triple the space of the university’s original student recreation building.
  • The project was completed as a phased construction project, sequenced to keep the existing facility operational throughout the 18 month construction cycle.
  • The existing activities building was completely renovated. The existing lateral system was evaluated, the west side of the building was underpinned, and extensive modifications were required in the existing load bearing walls.
  • The new construction features multiple roof planes with long cantilever overhangs and expansive curtainwall systems. The gymnasium includes long span joists supporting hung equipment and a perimeter running track.
