This iconic red canopy is located in the heart of the Neuhoff development. U+C is also the structural engineer for the Neuhoff office and residential buildings.
The structure is constructed using reclaimed riveted steel trusses from the auto service building originally on site.
The 55-foot-long steel trusses date back to the mid-twentieth century and showcase construction typical to that era including riveted connections and large vertical solid steel end bearing plates.
The existing web, chord, and bridging members were reinforced to reinvent the trusses for modern building codes and loads. The new steel reinforcing members were carefully coordinated to include punch holes and welded connections visually matching the existing riveted connections.
