Structural Features

  • The 11-story existing building, originally constructed in 1978, underwent a full renovation to provide new laboratories, offices, and public spaces for UNC. The updated building features 9 laboratory floors, a 17,000 sf vivarium, and a new elevated plaza.
  • Transforming the building’s exterior required removal of the existing precast facade and replacing it with an energy efficient curtain wall system.
  • Phased construction allowed the facilities to remain operational during the renovations.
